The development of SAMBO in Kyrgyzstan began in the 1960s. Athletes mainly trained within the sports society "Dynamo." Among the first SAMBO coaches in the city of Frunze during that period were the brothers Sergey Mikhailovich and Vladimir Mikhailovich Zhuldibin, Roman Pavlovich Kim, and Saveliy Emelyanovich Galkin (coach of the Dynamo Sports Society and the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz SSR).

In 1976, coach Nikolai Petrovich Mikhailov arrived in Frunze from the Chuvash ASSR.

In 1977, Ruslan Sardybayevich Iskenov, Honored Coach of the USSR, was elected President of the SAMBO Federation of the Kyrgyz SSR.

In 2002, Ruslan Iskenov transferred his duties to Nurlan Ysyragidinovich Tokonoev.
