The Australian National SAMBO Tournament and training seminar were held in Melbourne
Melbourne became the venue for the Australian National SAMBO Tournament, where athletes aged from 6 to 60 took part. On the eve of the start of the tournament, a seminar was also held for referees and coaches, following which a national certification of specialists was organized.
“Melbourne was chosen not by chance. This is the second most important city both for Australia for the development of sports. We received a large number of requests from local clubs that want to develop SAMBO in their country, and we decided to help them by organizing competitions and a seminar in the city,” said Savely Timofeev, president of the SAMBO Federation of Australia Limited.
Based on the results of the seminar, 7 trainers successfully passed national certification. This means that now three sports clubs in Melbourne and one club in Geelong will begin SAMBO training under the guidance of specialists accredited by the Australian National Federation.
“It should be noted that this year we paid special attention to the development of women's sports. We created a special program to attract women to become referees, and also tried to attract as many female athletes as possible to competitions as participants,” Timofeev emphasized.
According to him, the national tournament attracted a significant number of spectators who watched the performances of both beginner sambists and already experienced athletes, including medalists of the continental championship.
“The most important thing we see is the constant growth of interest in SAMBO in Australia. This motivates us to further work on the development and popularization of our favorite martial art in the country. Our plans are to continue step-by-step movement in this direction further,” said the head of Australian Sambo Savely Timofeev.
