The Pan American Sambo Championships will be held in the Dominican Republic on September 6-7. Sambists will compete in the city of Santo Domingo for medals of the continental tournament in Sport SAMBO and Combat SAMBO both among men and women. According to the organizing committee, representatives of 22 countries will take part in the championship.
Teams are expected to compete from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, USA, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela
“This year the Pan American Championships will not only determine the strongest sambists of the continent, but will also complete the selection for the World Combat Games, which took place during the continental championships. Pan-American sambists will complete the list of participants of the Games in Riyadh. In addition, a day after the end of our championship, the World Beach SAMBO Championships starts in the Dominican Republic. For many sambists of our continent, this will be an excellent opportunity to test their strength in fights with the most powerful sambists in the world. I am sure that a fascinating spectacle awaits us,” said Omar Lopera, President of the Pan American Sambo Union.
The Pan American SAMBO Championships will be held in the following weight categories:
Sport SAMBO (men): 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg; +88 kg (qualifying to the World Combat Games)

Recall that the Dominican Republic has already become the host country of the continental tournament. In 2019, the Pan American Sambo Championships were held in this country. Native walls helped local athletes perform well: in the overall standings, then the Dominican team became the second, losing the palm only to the representatives of Venezuela.
The live broadcast of the Pan American SAMBO Championships 2023 will be held on the FIAS website.
