The Russian national team won the team tournament of the World University Sambo Championships 2016. In the final match the Russians were stronger than rivals from Kyrgyzstan. Third place was shared between the sambists of Lithuania and Cyprus. Team tournament finished first ever World University Sambo Championships under the auspices of FISU, which took place in Nicosia from 9 to 11 of December.
