Bolivian police have adopted SAMBO

The Bolivian Police, through the U.T.O.P. (Unidad Táctica de Operaciones Policiales – Police Operations Tactical Unit) in the city of El Alto, conducted a specialized training day focused on self-defense and arrest techniques. The emphasis was placed on SAMBO for military and law enforcement agencies – a discipline that enhances reaction speed, control, and operational effectiveness in high-risk situations.

The training was led by Lieutenant Héctor Cossio Montaño, a specialized SAMBO instructor. He was assisted by athletes competing in Sport SAMBO, Beach SAMBO, and Combat SAMBO disciplines, who shared their experience and techniques during each practical exercise.

The event was also attended by César Castro Fernández, President of the Bolivian SAMBO Federation, who spoke about the importance of the event.

“SAMBO provides our law enforcement officers with practical tools that can be applied directly in the field,” said César Castro Fernández. “This training demonstrates how our discipline strengthens the operational capabilities of those who serve and protect our communities daily.”

He also added that the specialized training session in El Alto represents another step forward in integrating SAMBO into professional training programs for security forces, highlighting the discipline's value in preparing personnel for real-world operational scenarios.
