The Australian SAMBO Championship was held in Sydney

Australian sambists completed the sports season by taking part in the national SAMBO championship. The tournament was held in Sydney at the Fight Lab club on December 7-8. Over the course of two days, athletes of various ages from different states of Australia competed in Sport and Combat SAMBO.

On the eve of the start of the competition, on December 6, the Australian SAMBO Federation held a referee seminar. As a result of the training, new referees appeared in Australian SAMBO, who were certified in the national category C.

“We were glad to welcome among our new referees a representative of the indigenous people of Australia (first nation), who successfully passed the exam. An athlete who is an aborigine is already competing in the national team of our country. Now an indigenous person has appeared among the referees,” noted the President of the Australian SAMBO Federation, Savely Timofeev.

Another important achievement, according to the organizing committee, was the participation of SAMBO masters (veterans) in the national championship. The oldest participant in the competition among masters turned 60 years old.

"The Australian Championship featured athletes of various ages: from children to masters, proving once again that SAMBO can be safely practiced by people of any age. Most of the participants in the competition already had experience of participating in national SAMBO tournaments. There was also a place for beginners, who will certainly remember this championship for a long time. I am glad that SAMBO continues to gain popularity in Australia, spreading across the country," Savely Timofeev added.

Representatives from such states as Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales took part in the Australian SAMBO Championship in Sydney. The Victorian team won the largest number of gold medals and the status of winner in the team standings.
