Balkan SAMBO Championships 2025: Regional Unity and Growth on Display in Panagyurishte
The 2025 Balkan SAMBO Championships was held on November 16 in Panagyurishte, Bulgaria, bringing together 227 athletes from four nations and marking another milestone in the region's sporting cooperation.
The event at Arena Asarel featured competitors from Bulgaria, Moldova, Greece, and North Macedonia. The championship's timing with International SAMBO Day on November 16 added symbolic weight to the occasion, creating what organizers called a "double celebration" for the sport.

The Balkan Championships has now been staged for four consecutive years across different Balkan nations, demonstrating the stability of the regional SAMBO community. The 2025 edition was organized through cooperation between the Balkan SAMBO Association (BSA) and the Bulgarian SAMBO Federation, headed by President Rosen Dimitrov.

“The competition showcased technical skill and competitive intensity across multiple weight categories,” organizers stated.

In the team standings Bulgaria claimed the top position, followed by Moldova and Greece.

A notable highlight came from participants in the "Sport SAMBO for Development" program, coached by Emil Neshev. The young athletes demonstrated measurable progress and competitive confidence, reinforcing the program's role in building the next generation of sambists.

“Investment in youth development continues to prove essential for the sport's future,” noted BSA representatives at the event.

The next Balkan SAMBO Championships are scheduled for 2026 in Chisinau, Moldova, continuing the tradition of rotating host cities.
