Kazakhstan SAMBO Championship Brings Together Over 500 Athletes in Karaganda

From February 8 to 12, the city of Karaganda hosted the Kazakhstan National SAMBO Championship among adult men and women. The competition took place at the Zhastar Sports Complex and gathered representatives from 16 regions and three cities of republican significance.

A total of 517 athletes competed for the national title. As the national SAMBO federation emphasized, this fact reflects both the scale of the event and the growing depth of SAMBO in Kazakhstan. The high number of participants made for intense competition across all weight categories, with athletes competing not only for medals but also for a place in the updated national team roster.

The championship served as the key selection event ahead of a busy international calendar. The winners and top performers will now target three major competitions this season: the World SAMBO Cup in Armenia in April, the Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championships in June in the Philippines and the World SAMBO Championships in November in Uzbekistan.

The event was organized by the SAMBO Federation of the Karaganda Region. Notable athletes and distinguished figures from the world of sport and SAMBO were invited to attend, and the championship received broad coverage across regional media platforms.
