FIAS Invites Sambists to the ITA Seminar on Medications, Supplements, the Prohibited List, and TUEs

The International SAMBO Federation invites sambists and everyone interested to join the third edition of the International Testing Agency (ITA) webinar series. The webinar will take place on June 5th and will focus on Medications, Supplements, the Prohibited List, and TUEs, including the Principle of Strict Liability.

One of the 11 Anti-Doping Rules violations, which is a serious offense, is the use or attempted use by an athlete of a prohibited substance or a prohibited method. The List of Prohibited Substances and Methods (List) clearly indicates what substances and methods are strictly prohibited in sport and when, underscoring the severity of the consequences for non-compliance.

The Anti-Doping regulations are governed by the principle of strict liability, a concept that places the responsibility on all athletes for any substances found in their doping samples. This principle necessitates a high degree of personal responsibility from athletes, making it crucial for them to meticulously check their medication and nutritional supplements before consumption or use, to avoid any inadvertent violations.

Athletes also may have illnesses or conditions that require them to take medications or undergo procedures. If the medication or method an athlete is required to use to treat a disease or condition is prohibited as per the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) may give that athlete, the authorization to use that substance or method while competing without invoking an Anti-Doping rule violation (ADRV) and applicable sanction. A panel of physicians evaluates applications for TUEs, the TUE Committee (TUEC).

The upcoming webinar will help you better understand the details of this complex topic and minimize the risk of unintentional errors.

The webinar will be held at 14:00-15:00 CEST
