FIAS becomes a part of Association of Paralympic Sport Organisations

The International SAMBO Federation (FIAS) has received recognition from the Association of Paralympic Sport Organisations (APSO), marking a new step in its cooperation with the international Paralympic Movement.

APSO brings together international federations and sport organizations that govern sports on the Paralympic Games program or recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The association represent their common interests and gives these organizations a platform to share expertise.

“We are delighted to welcome FIAS to the APSO community and appreciate its commitment to collaboration and knowledge sharing. By bringing international federations together and supporting their efforts to develop inclusive sport, we can help expand opportunities for athletes to train and compete,” said Dr Debra Alexander, APSO President.

“We thank APSO for this recognition. Our priority is to give more athletes who are blind or have a vision impairment the opportunity to practice SAMBO and compete internationally. Working with APSO and its member organizations will help us support our national federations in developing Blind SAMBO in their countries,” said Vasily Shestakov, FIAS President.

In 2025, the IPC granted FIAS the status of a Recognized International Federation, acknowledging its work to develop Blind SAMBO. Cooperation with APSO will give FIAS further opportunities to exchange expertise in athlete classification, coach and official education, and the organization of international competitions.
