World SAMBO Cup to Be Held in Dushanbe
For the first time in history, the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, will host the World SAMBO Cup. The tournament will take place on September 20-21 at the Sports Complex of Tajik National University.
This large-scale sporting event will bring together the strongest sambists from around the globe, who will compete for medals in 28 weight categories. According to the tournament regulations, each participating country will be allowed to enter two athletes per weight category, which will ensure not only a very high level of competition but also a highly representative line-up of participants.
The draw will be based on the athletes’ international rankings, guaranteeing spectacular matchups throughout the two days of competition. The tournament will feature both Sport SAMBO and Combat SAMBO events for men and women in the following weight categories:
Sport SAMBO (men): 58, 64, 71, 79, 88, 98, +98 kg
Sport SAMBO (women): 50, 54, 59, 65, 72, 80, +80 kg
Combat SAMBO (men): 58, 64, 71, 79, 88, 98, +98 kg
Combat SAMBO (women): 50, 54, 59, 65, 72, 80, +80 kg
“Hosting the World SAMBO Cup in Dushanbe is an important step in developing SAMBO on the international stage. This tournament will be the final major event before the World Championships in Bishkek in November, which makes it especially significant in the international competition calendar. I am confident that this tournament will mark a new chapter in the development of SAMBO in the Central Asian region and inspire young athletes to achieve remarkable victories,” said FIAS President Vasily Shestakov.
The competition will be broadcast live on www.sambo.live
