International Academic Congress "Sports, Man, Health" Held in St. Petersburg

On April 25-27, the 9th International Academic Congress “Sports, Man, Health” took place in St. Petersburg. Representatives of 38 countries, about 200 speakers and more than 750 participants on the whole, assembled in the northern capital of Russia. Among them were economists, educators, lawyers, scholars. The primary objective of the event was to find a way to eradicate doping in sports.

The researches were dedicated both to the prevention of doping and to the newest technologies for its detection, as well as to the constant monitoring of the medical area. During the three days of the Congress, 133 reports were presented within six academic sections, and eleven reports given at two plenary sessions, with three panel sessions being held.

Among the speakers were the President of the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health, Professor Sergei Bakulev, Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Public Organization for the Promotion of Science and Sport “Sports, Man, Health”, President of the International SAMBO Federation Vasily Shestakov, Professor at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic) and University of Leeds (United Kingdom) Jim Perry, Professor at Brunel University (United Kingdom), President of the European Association for Sport Management, Doctor of Economics Vassil Girginov, a recognized expert in the field of anti-doping activities, the sports management and sports classification in Paralympic sports, member of the Classification Committee of International Paralympic Committee Arthur Graham, and many others.

Ten proposals were submitted in the Resolution of the 9th International Academic Congress "Sports, Man, Health". The compilation of the Congress materials included 204 scholarly articles. The next time the scholars will meet in St. Petersburg in two years.

The Congress is being held under the official patronage of the Council of Europe, the Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA), under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, with the support of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Olympic Committee of Russia and the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of St. Petersburg.
