A New Step for SAMBO in Northern Europe: The Nordic SAMBO Alliance is Forming

The Finnish SAMBO Federation and the Swedish budo organization Suginoha Ryu have agreed to join forces in establishing the Nordic SAMBO Alliance – a partnership that will become a new platform for developing SAMBO in Northern Europe.

The Finnish federation is expected to lead the new alliance, coordinating joint projects and programs. Both sides emphasize that the agreement opens the door to expanding SAMBO’s presence in Scandinavia and strengthening its role on the international stage.

Founded in 2006 in Helsinki, the Finnish SAMBO Federation currently unites four clubs across the country and actively promotes the discipline at the national level. The federation is confident that its partnership with Suginoha Ryu – which brings more than 30 years of experience in martial arts and security training – will help elevate SAMBO in the region to a new level.

Suginoha Ryu, created in 1995 by Magnus Cederblad in Stockholm, is widely known for its extensive club network and comprehensive programs, ranging from martial arts training to self-defense. By joining the alliance, Suginoha Ryu will now expand its activities in SAMBO – an area that has not previously been central to its work.

“The creation of the Nordic SAMBO Alliance reflects the trend of strengthening international cooperation and highlights the growing interest in SAMBO across Europe. This step is important not only for Finland and Sweden, but also for the entire SAMBO community, as it paves the way for closer collaboration among the Nordic countries and deeper integration of SAMBO into the region’s sporting life,” said Anatoly Skippari, President of the Finnish SAMBO Federation.
