FIAS President Vasily Shestakov Takes Part in the “SAMBO Tree” Ceremony
A symbolic event reflecting the spirit of continuity and unity within SAMBO took place on October 15 in St. Petersburg. In the S. M. Kirov Central Park of Culture and Recreation, a ceremonial oak planting was held to mark the upcoming International SAMBO Day, traditionally celebrated on November 16.

President of the International SAMBO Federation (FIAS) Vasily Shestakov personally planted a young oak tree – a living symbol of strength, resilience, and the enduring bond between generations in the sport of SAMBO.

“The planting of this oak is more than a gesture – it is an investment in the future. Like SAMBO, the tree grows stronger over time and gives life to new generations. It stands as a reminder of our shared responsibility for the development of this sport and for those who will come after us. SAMBO has always been a school of courage, respect, and unity – and today we continue that tradition,” said Vasily Shestakov.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Executive Committee of the St. Petersburg SAMBO Federation and prominent athletes, including Ruslan Gasymov, Anatoly Stishak, Denis Goltsov, Alexey Veselovzorov, Ekaterina Doroshenko, Dmitry Eliseev, and Sergey Yalyshev. Also present were Ivan Bykov, Director of the High Sports Mastery School (KShVSM), and Pavel Seleznev, Director of the Kirov Park.

Special attention was given to the younger generation of SAMBO athletes. Under the guidance of coach Alexander Makovtsov, young sambists from the Primorsky District Youth Center took part in the tree planting, symbolizing the continuity of generations and the collective contribution to the development of SAMBO.

Organizers emphasized that the oak planted on this day will not only adorn the park but also serve as a symbol of growth and prosperity for SAMBO – a sport that unites generations and nurtures inner strength.
