PRO-SAMBO: Education on the Rules. Release 2

The first rule of the International SAMBO Rules is “Format of the competition”. Guided by the principle that as many people as possible should know about SAMBO rules, the FIAS website publishes answers to frequently asked questions regarding International SAMBO Rules. Today you will find the 2nd edition of the educational program according to the SAMBO rules.

Question: Are grips by shorts allowed in Combat SAMBO?

Answer: At the moment, such grips are prohibited, however, from January 1, 2024, the decision of the FIAS Executive Committee to amend Article 8 of the International Combat SAMBO Rules comes into force. In accordance with this decision, a new design of shorts will be introduced (shorts for Beach SAMBO are used as an example) and throws with grabbing shorts will be allowed.

Question: How are scores for knockouts and knockdowns in Combat SAMBO recorded in the competition protocols?

Answer: Points for a knockdown are recorded in the protocol by recording 4KD.

The end of the fight ahead of schedule due to a knockout is recorded by the entry "X/KO".

The end of the fight ahead of schedule due to two knockdowns is recorded as “X/KD”.

Question: What techniques are prohibited in women's Combat SAMBO compared to men's?

Answer: Prohibited techniques in women's Combat SAMBO include:

- elbow strikes;

- hitting by the head.

Question: What actions are no longer prohibited in Sport SAMBO?

Answer: Amendments have been made to Article 32 of the International Rules for Sport SAMBO. As a result, punishments (warnings) for intentional grib were canceled:

- for the floors of the jacket,

- at the ends of the belt,

- for gripping the sleeve of the opponent's jacket from the inside (Except for the age group of cadets. For them, this grip is left prohibited).
