Bucharest (Romania), April 5-9 On April 5-9, in Bucharest (the capital of Romania) they held a European Championship in SAMBO among junior and youth (men and women). The competitions of the young sambists were held in 10 female and 10 male Weight categories of the sports SAMBO. The Romanian capital accepted young SAMBO stars from Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, the Netherlands, Russia, Romania, Slovenia, the Ukraine, France, and Estonia. About 400 young sambists - representatives of 21 countries of the Old world - fought for the medals of the European Championship in Bucharest's largest sports complex Sala Polivalenta designed to hold 5 thousand fans. Athletes from 16 countries competed for the medals, which is and evidence of the expanding geography of modern European SAMBO, as well as of tough competition at the international level. Representatives of 9 European countries earned the honor to get on the upper step of the podium. Within the walls of the glorious Sala Polivalenta they played the state anthems of Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Romania, and the Ukraine. Among the discoveries of the Tournament were the French team who won a silver medal and the Lithuanian team who added gold, silver, and bronze medals to their collection. The Italian team also won the full set of medals (gold, silver and bronze); the home team (the Romanians) won the gold and the bronze medals of the Tournament.
