Russia Claims World Title in Beach SAMBO Team Event

The World Beach SAMBO Championships in Caraguatatuba, Brazil, wrapped up on September 13 with the mixed team tournament. Team Russia took the top spot, defeating Team Romania in the final.

Teams competed in mixed lineups: women – 72 kg and over 72 kg; men – 71, 88 kg and over 88 kg. Russia proved unequivocally stronger than their opponents in the final, sealing the win 3-0 to take the gold medal home. On their way to the final, the Russians were equally dominant, overcoming Costa Rica and Israel.

Romania's road to the final proved far tougher: in the semifinal, they faced Kazakhstan, who had earlier made short work of hosts Brazil. The semifinal clash between Romania and Kazakhstan was a nail-biter, going all the way to the fifth and final bout before Romania edged it 3-2.

As a result – and based on the tournament's bracket format – Kazakhstan secured one bronze medal. The second bronze went to Israel, who got the better of Costa Rica in the battle for third place.
