An Emergency Congress of the Sambo Union of East Asia was held

Today, March 24, an emergency congress of the Sambo Union of East Asia (SUEA) was held to elect an interim acting president of the regional union. Moon Chongeum, who previously headed the SUEA, lost his status on January 27 due to the revocation of his right to represent the Korean Sambo Federation in the regional union.

The congress, which was held online, was attended by Chairman of the Sambo Federation of Hong Kong China Chan Kin Chun Ken and Secretary General of this organization Jeremia Fung, President of the Macau SAMBO Association Alexandro Magno Jorge, President of the Chinese Taipei SAMBO Association Wang Kuei Yuan, President of the Mongolian SAMBO Federation Dorjpalam Gerel , President of the Korea Sambo Federation Moon Seongcheon, President of the Japan Sambo Federation Masaaki Kondo and Secretary General of this organization Masashi Yoshizawa. The First Vice-President of the Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania (SUAO) Suresh Gopi was present as an observer.

The only candidate, President of the Mongolian SAMBO Federation Dorjpalam Gerel, claimed the position of the head of the Sambo Union of East Asia. During the voting, his candidacy was unanimously supported by all members of the congress. Chairman of the Hong Kong SAMBO Federation Chan Kin Chun Ken was also unanimously elected Secretary General of the SUEA.

“I express my gratitude to all members of the Sambo Union of East Asia for their trust in me, I will continue to work on the development of SAMBO in Mongolia, East Asia and around the world. I call on all national federations of our region to be united and actively exchange experiences for the professional growth of athletes, coaches and referees. I would also like to emphasize the importance of observing the FIAS regulations and rules when organizing and holding SAMBO events, this is the principle that we all adhere to and must adhere to in the future. We need to strive to show the whole world that our region is the most active in terms of SAMBO development, and we have all the prerequisites for this,” said the newly elected SUEA President Dorjpalam Gerel.

“I am glad that I was trusted to take the position of Secretary General of the SUEA, I will make every effort to contribute to our common initiative for the regional development of SAMBO,” said Chan Kin Chun Ken, Secretary General of the SUEA.

The term of office of the interim leadership of the SUEA is until the next elective congress in the summer of 2024, which will be held immediately before the elective congress of the Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania.

“I am very pleased with the appointment of President Dorjpalam Gerel to the post of leadership of the regional union, since Mongolia is a key country for the strategic development of SAMBO in the region with the possibility of active interaction with the Chinese side. For the same reason, the Sambo Federation of Hong Kong China can also play an important role in the region. I count on the productive work of the new leadership of the SUEA, in turn, the Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania will provide all the necessary support,” assured the First Vice-President of the SUAO Suresh Gopi.

SUEA is an administrative unit of SUAO, the role and responsibility of the regional president is to represent the interests of his region in the Executive Committee of the Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania. His key tasks are to lead the executive committee of his region, formulate annual goals and objectives in agreement with the President of the Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania, as well as the overall management of the development of SAMBO on behalf of the Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania in his region.
