Australian Open Beach SAMBO Championship Held in Adelaide
The fourth Beach SAMBO Championship in Adelaide took place on the shores of Glenelg Bay, with athletes from cities across Australia and several international competitors taking to the sand.

“The event drew a strong crowd – families with children, dedicated sports fans, and many people who were discovering Beach SAMBO for the very first time, yet stayed all the way through to the final bouts,” said Savely Timofeev, President of the SAMBO Federation of Australia.

The opening ceremony was a highlight in its own right, welcoming distinguished guests including Guangmin Hu, President of the Asia-Oceania Cultural Union, Tayla Ford, Head Coach of the Wrestling Federation of Australia, and representatives of a number of community organisations.

“We were particularly pleased to have Blind Sports South Australia represented at the opening ceremony by Vice President David Penn. In Australia, Beach SAMBO is steadily moving towards becoming a truly inclusive sport – opening real pathways for visually impaired athletes to compete and grow,” Timofeev added.

To confirm his words, competitions among visually impaired athletes were held during the championship. Beside it, on the competitive side, two bouts stood out for the crowd: a contest between Japanese athlete Ryuta Abe and the Victorian SAMBO Federation champion, and a match featuring Victorian SAMBO Federation President Saruulgeral Bayarsaikhan against an Australian competitor – both drawing strong interest from spectators.

“The championship has reinforced Adelaide's growing reputation as a centre for Beach SAMBO development in the region. Together with the local sporting community, we hope that Adelaide will one day host the World Beach SAMBO Championships,” said the head of Australian SAMBO.
