Azerbaijan Hosts National SAMBO Cup

The Azerbaijan National SAMBO Cup was held from July 3 to 6 at the Absheron Olympic Sports Complex. The tournament was dedicated to the memory of Honored Coach of the USSR and Azerbaijan, Abulfaz Aliyev.

The event brought together around 350 athletes from various regions of the country, representing sports clubs, federations, organizations, and Olympic reserve youth sports schools. Competitors included top SAMBO athletes of Azerbaijan in three age categories: cadets (born 2007–2008), juniors (born 2005–2006), and men (born in 2004 and earlier).

"The National Cup served as a key stage in selecting athletes for the Azerbaijani national team to compete in international SAMBO events," noted the Azerbaijan SAMBO Federation.

Among the guests of honor at the tournament were representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, the leadership of the Azerbaijan SAMBO Federation, as well as distinguished athletes and veterans of sport.
