First National SAMBO Tournament Inaugurated in Memory of Antonio Ramírez Rebollar in Mexico

The First National SAMBO Tournament in Memory of Antonio Ramírez Rebollar was successfully held in Mexico City, bringing together the country's SAMBO community to honor a man who dedicated his life to the sport.

The event served as the first national qualifying tournament of the season, attracting over 150 athletes from more than 18 states across the nation. Competitors took to the mats in both Sport and Combat SAMBO, with divisions for male and female athletes in the cadet, youth, junior, and senior age categories.

The tournament was a heartfelt tribute to Antonio Ramírez Rebollar, a figure whose sudden and tragic passing five years ago in 2021 sent shockwaves through the global SAMBO community. Described by colleagues as a bright, extraordinary, and sincere individual, Ramírez Rebollar was wholly devoted to the development of SAMBO.

He spearheaded a true breakthrough for the discipline in Mexico. More than just a coach or an administrator, he was a philosopher of SAMBO. Antonio Ramírez Rebollar successfully imported and implemented not only the technical aspects of the sport but its core philosophy – one built on respect and morality.
