Turkey Hosts Its First Official SAMBO Championship
A historic milestone was reached in Istanbul with the successful organization of Turkey’s first official SAMBO Championship. Held on April 5–6 at the Başakşehir Youth Sports Center, the tournament marked an important step forward in the development of SAMBO in the country.
The championship featured competitions in two disciplines – Sport SAMBO and Combat SAMBO. A total of 250 athletes from across Turkey, representing various clubs, took part in the event. The participants demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and a strong competitive spirit throughout the tournament.

"Interest in SAMBO is growing rapidly in Turkey, and in the coming years, this sport will earn its rightful place in the country’s sporting culture. The large number of athletes and spectators in attendance speaks for itself – the atmosphere at the championship was both celebratory and emotional," said Kadir Polat, General Coordinator for SAMBO Development in Turkey.

Following the competitions, Turkey’s first official SAMBO champions were crowned and awarded well-deserved medals and recognition.

This inaugural championship not only identified the country’s top athletes but also symbolized the beginning of a new era for SAMBO in Turkey. Organizers and participants alike are hopeful that the tournament will become an annual event, drawing even more competitors and fans in the years to come.
