The second tournament in memory of Alexander Pushnitsa was held in Chile

The second tournament, dedicated to the memory of the legendary sambist Alexander Pushnitsa, was held in Chile. The competition was organized at the La Paloma sports complex, located in one of the urban communes of the city of Santiago.

Men competed for medals in both Sport SAMBO and Combat SAMBO in the weight categories of 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 88 kg and 98 kg. Women competed in Sport SAMBO competitions in the 64 kg and 72 kg categories. As the organizers emphasized, the tournament is not only a vibrant SAMBO festival, but most importantly, a tribute to the memory of the great sambist.

“The legacy of Alexander Pushnitsa is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for SAMBO lovers. The tournament participants paid tribute to the memory of the legendary athlete with great respect, and in the competition they tried to show the best results, imitating his skill and unique professionalism,” said Nelson Romero, President of the Chilean National Sports Federation of SAMBO and Martial Arts.

He noted that he has sincere admiration for the legacy that Alexander Pushnitsa left behind.

Alexander Pushnitsa is the most titled Soviet sambist. He has three victories at the World Championships (1974, 1979, 1983), twice he won the World Cup (1977, 1980) and twice won the European Championships (1976, 1984). Pushnitsa nine times became the champion of the USSR (1974-1980, 1983, 1984). For 15 years he was the permanent captain of the Soviet Union SAMBO team.
