World Beach SAMBO Championships 2026 to Be Held in Brazil for the First Time
Brazil will host the World Beach SAMBO Championships 2026 for the first time in the event's history. The tournament will take place on 12-13 September on the renowned Indaiá Beach in the city of Caraguatatuba, São Paulo state.
Competition will be held in eight individual weight categories:
Men: 58, 71, 88 kg and over 88 kg
Women: 50, 59, 72 kg and over 72 kg
Alongside the individual events, the program also includes a mixed team tournament.
Athletes from 24 countries have entered the Championships, including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Romania, Russia, Spain, the USA, Uruguay, Venezuela, and a Refugee Team, among others.
This broad international representation underscores beach SAMBO's status as a fast-growing discipline, bringing together athletes from across the globe – from Latin America and Europe to the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
“Sport has always been, and remains, the greatest unifying force between nations. On the competition mat, it doesn't matter where you're from – what matters is respect for your opponent, fair competition and the drive to win. In Beach SAMBO, where a bout lasts until the first scoring throw, every athlete has a real chance of victory – this creates genuine drama and unpredictability in every contest. SAMBO brings people together across the world, and this Championships in Brazil is a vivid example of that. It's no coincidence that our motto is: “SAMBO is Family, Family is Strength, Strength is Peace,'” said FIAS President Vasily Shestakov.
