National SAMBO Championship in Brisbane: A New Step Forward for the Sport in Australia
On October 25, Brisbane (Queensland) hosted the National SAMBO Championship in both Sport and Combat SAMBO disciplines. The event marked another important step in the development of SAMBO in Australia, showcasing the growing interest in the sport across the continent.

More than 50 athletes from different regions of the country – Adelaide, Melbourne, Cairns, St. Arnaud, and Brisbane – took to the mats of the “SAMBO and Judo Institute.” Among the participants were children as young as six, juniors, men, and women, all demonstrating technical skill, discipline, and respect for their opponents – the core values that define SAMBO philosophy.

The tournament was hosted by the “SAMBO and Judo Institute” under the leadership of Patrick Mahan, coach of the national judo team and a passionate SAMBO advocate in Queensland, who has been actively cooperating with the Australian SAMBO Federation to promote the sport nationwide.

“This championship became a true celebration for everyone who believes in the growth of SAMBO in Australia,” said Savely Timofeev, President of the SAMBO Federation of Australia. “We can see how interest in our sport is growing, with new athletes, coaches, and clubs joining the movement. This inspires us to continue building a strong foundation for the future generations of sambists.”

Over three competition days, participants delivered exciting matches, powerful throws, and unwavering dedication to the principles of fair play. The winners and medalists were awarded medals and certificates, as well as an opportunity to join the Australian national team for upcoming international tournaments under the auspices of FIAS.
