National Beach SAMBO Tournament in Adelaide: More Participants and New Champions

The national Beach SAMBO tournament of Australia was held on March 22 in the Glenelg (Glenelg, Holdfast Bay) area of Adelaide. With each passing year, the event attracts more and more athletes of all ages and skill levels from across the country.

“Glenelg has long been the traditional venue for this tournament. Known for its stunning beaches and excellent infrastructure, the area is actively supported by the Holdfast Bay Council, which helps organize public events such as festivals, marathons, and major sporting competitions. Although the national Beach SAMBO championship is held here only once a year, interest in the sport continues to grow steadily”, said Savely Timofeev, president of the Sambo Federation of Australia.

While talking about the tournament stars, Timofeev highlighted several sambists. This season, athletes from Victoria – Saruulgerrel Bayarsaikhan and Salkhajargal Gansukn – stood out in particular. They showcased their great technique and tactical skills, confidently winning gold in their weight categories.

“Australian beaches have long attracted athletes from around the world, and Glenelg could soon become a global venue for Beach SAMBO. With the sport’s growing popularity in the country and strong support from local authorities, there is a real possibility that international tournaments could be held here in the near future”, Savely Timofeev said.

He added that Beach SAMBO is a spectacular, dynamic, and accessible discipline that brings athletes together regardless of age or skill level. Another unique feature of Beach SAMBO tournaments is their ability to attract spectators like a magnet, serving as a kind of promotional platform for the sport. Once again, for several hours, hundreds of people strolling along the beach turned into fans of the competition, discovering this new form of martial arts for themselves.

“The national tournament in Adelaide has once again proven that interest in the sport is on the rise, paving the way for even more victories and major sporting events in the future!” – Timofeev added.
