Evelin CUEVAS: “At Such Moments You Realize that Everything Was Not in Vain”

Dominican athlete Evelin Cuevas won the gold medal of the Pan American SAMBO Championships in the weight category up to 60 kg among women. In an interview for the FIAS website, she told who she was grateful for her victory, and what was her preparation for the tournament.

“I want to thank my coach Carlos Arteaga and the president of the Dominican Sambo Federation, Eliseo Romero, for the opportunity to practice SAMBO, for the athletic skills I gained and for the conditions created for athletes,” Cuevas said.

She stressed that she worked hard to win the gold medal.

“I practice SAMBO very intensively, I have two trainings a day. And today it is especially pleasant for me to feel the taste of victory, at such moments you realize that everything was not in vain. Now we have a new goal ahead - the World SAMBO Championships in Korea,” the Dominican sambist said.

The Pan American SAMBO Championships was held from 28 to 30 June in the Dominican Republic. The general sponsor of the tournament is Rosneft oil company, the official sponsor of the tournament is MikroKapital company.
