International SAMBO Tournament "Nerush Cup" Held in Israel
The international tournament in memory of Alexander Nerush was held in Israel for the fifth time. The competition was attended by 264 athletes from 11 countries in the age categories of cadets, youth and adults. For many athletes, this tournament has become the final preparatory start before the European Championships and the European Cadets, Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships.

It is Israel that will host both major continental tournaments this year. The European Championships and the European Cadets, Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships will be held in the Israeli city of Haifa from 19 to 23 April. Medals will be raffled off in Sport SAMBO among cadets, youths, juniors and adults, as well as in Combat SAMBO among men (adults).

“The traditional Nerush Cup is held in honor of Alexander Nerush, former Israeli SAMBO team athlete. In parallel to his athletic qualities, he also had a scientific gift and at the age of 28 he was a professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry. The work of Alexander was recognized by the international community of chemists as a breakthrough of the century in organic chemistry, and after his death, representatives of 24 countries continue to develop this work for the benefit of mankind,” said Pavel Musin, Vice President of the Israel SAMBO Federation.
Alexander Nerush died at the age of 28 after a difficult battle with cancer.
