The arena for the competition will be the Montserrat sports complex in the city of Alajuela. Spectators will be able not only to see the SAMBO fights, but also to take pictures with the mascot of the tournament – a sloth in SAMBO uniform. According to locals, sloths in Costa Rica have become a symbol of the country due to their delightful muzzle, soft coat and very interesting lifestyle.
Costa Rica is hosting the Continental SAMBO Championships for the first time, and the organizers are determined to hold the tournament at the highest possible level.
“We are very proud that Costa Rica has become the host country of the Pan American SAMBO Championships this year and we are making every effort to make the tournament memorable for all spectators and participants. I want to note the work of each member of the organizing committee team, as well as the great support that the National Olympic Committee of the country provides us in organizing the competition. I am sure that holding the continental championships in Costa Rica will give a powerful new impetus to the development of SAMBO not only in our country, but throughout Central America,” said Guillermo Sanchez, President of the SAMBO and Associated Sports Federation of Costa Rica.
Speaking about the sports component of the tournament, Sanchez noted that he is counting on the first place of his country's team in the team standings. However, the rivals will certainly want to argue with this and compete for the medals of the competition. We will find out who will succeed in this better on September 9-11. The competition will be broadcast live on the FIAS website.
