Sambists from 21 countries will take part in the NOC of Armenia President's SAMBO Cup

The international SAMBO tournament "Cup of the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan" will be held on August 4 in Yerevan. Competitions will be held in 7 weight categories in Sport SAMBO among men and in 2 weight categories in Sport SAMBO among women. According to the organizing committee, athletes from 21 countries of the world will take part in the tournament.

The list of participants will be formed by individual invitation from the organizing committee of the tournament. No more than 8 athletes can take part in one weight category. Representatives of the following countries are expected to compete for the NOC of Armenia President's Cup awards: Armenia, Bulgaria, Egypt, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Mongolia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Tajikistan, USA, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, as well as FIAS 2 and the refugee team.

The winners of the Cup of the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan will compete for a cash prize fund with the total amount of 200,000 USD.

“Today, tournaments with a prize fund, where sambists can receive a cash prize, are becoming a good tradition. If earlier this applied only to the main tournaments of the calendar of the International SAMBO Federation, now this practice has spread to smaller, but prestigious competitions.

The start was made in St. Petersburg, where in 2021 sambists fought for a large prize fund at the international SAMBO tournament FIAS President's Cup. Now Yerevan has taken over the baton. Sambists from more than 20 countries will compete for medals and impressive prize money of the NOC of Armenia President's Cup. I am sure that the tournament will be held at a high organizational level, and this experience will be in demand on all continents where SAMBO is developing,” said Vasily Shestakov, President of the International SAMBO Federation.

The medals of the International Sambo Tournament "Cup of the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan" 2023 will be played in the following weight categories:

Sport SAMBO - men: 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg.

Sport SAMBO - women: 54 kg, + 80 kg.
