The International Military SAMBO Tournament Concluded in Moscow

The International Military SAMBO Tournament has come to a close at the International SAMBO Center in the Luzhniki Sports Complex in Moscow. The competition was held under the motto of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) - «Friendship through Sport».

The tournament featured 81 athletes from 18 countries: Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Mauritania, Myanmar, Russia, Syria, Tajikistan, Togo, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Eswatini.

The Competitions in Sport SAMBO were held in seven weight categories for men (up to 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, and over 98 kg) and for women (up to 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, and over 80 kg).

Based on the results of the competitions, medals were awarded to athletes from 12 countries. Among men, the medalists came from Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Belarus. Among women, awards went to representatives of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Mali, Eswatini, Armenia, and Vietnam.

In the women's standings, the Russian team took first place in total medal count, followed by Kazakhstan in second, and Belarus in third. Among men, Russia also claimed first place, Kazakhstan took second, and Iran placed third.

«The International Military SAMBO Tournament represents a crucial step toward the inclusion of SAMBO in the program of the World Military Games, which are held under the auspices of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) every four years. We see tremendous interest in this sport from military personnel across different nations, and this tournament has become the first of two required stages for SAMBO to be officially incorporated into the Games program.
