European SAMBO Championships starts in Cyprus

 These days Limassol meets the best sambists from all over Europe. Cyprus is preparing for the start of two of the largest tournaments of the continent at once: on May 26-27, the European Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships will be held here, and on May 28-29, the "Adult" European SAMBO Championships will take place. The general partner of the tournament is Rosneft oil company.

The competitions will be held in accordance with the FIAS Recommendations for Ensuring Safety and Prevention after the COVID-19 Pandemic, that is, taking into account the restrictions on the movement of athletes, in compliance with all safety measures and social distancing in the arena. Despite all the restrictions, Cyprus is awaiting the arrival of representatives from 26 European countries.

On the eve of the start of the championships in Limassol, the International seminar for referees was held. Theoretical and practical exercises for the referees were conducted by FIAS Executive Director Sergey Tabakov and FIAS Sports Director Dmitry Maksimov. After the seminar, an exam took place, following which the participants were assigned the categories corresponding to their qualifications. Referees of the international category will be able to prove themselves in the near future – at the European Youth and Junior Championships and the European SAMBO Championships.
