SAMBO Championships Of Latvia Were Held In Riga

On February 25, SAMBO Championships of Latvia, as well as Youth Championships, were held in the country’s capital, Riga. Vsevolods Zelionijs Sporting School was chosen as the venue for the event. Both tournaments were qualifiers for a membership in the national teams that will participate in the European Championships in Greece and the European SAMBO Championships among Youth and Juniors in Prague respectively.
‘By the results of the tournament, we have selected 15 best sambists among the young athletes, and 7 among the adult sambists who would represent Latvia at the international tournaments,’ reported Vsevolods Zelionijs, President of the Latvian SAMBO Federation. ‘I’d like to make a special mention of Viktor Reshko, a leading Latvian sambist and one of the top athletes in the world who has taken part in these national Championships and has become the country’s champion once again, by winning the gold in the under 100 kg weight category.’
