Yerevan is preparing to host the 2023 World Sambo Championships
With the onset of October, preparations for the World Sambo Championships entered an active phase. Currently, the Sambo Federation of Armenia is working on the design of the main Sports and Concert Complex named after Karen Demirchyan, where the main tournament of the FIAS calendar will be held. World-class Armenian film director, winner of numerous international awards Hrach Keshishyan, is working on the script for the opening ceremony, which will take place on the first day of the tournament - November 10.
Informing the population about the upcoming sporting event is also in full swing. In addition to advertising the World Championship on Armenian television, which began airing on October 1, and billboards on the streets of the capital, the Republic hosts numerous demonstration performances of sambo wrestlers, designed to attract the attention of residents to the main tournament of the year in the FIAS calendar.
“This year Yerevan is hosting the World Sambo Championships, which is a great honor and responsibility for us. The main Sports and Concert Complex of the country will bring together not only the best sambists from all over the world, but also numerous Olympic champions of Armenia in a variety of sports. Also, this sporting event will be honored by honored SAMBO veterans and titled sambists who have completed their sports careers,” noted the President of the Armenian Sambo Federation Michael Hayrapetyan.
Sambists from more than 70 countries are expected to take part in the competition.
“Armenians are hospitable people. We invite sambists from all over the world to the capital of our beautiful Republic – the city of Yerevan. For my part, I want to assure all competition participants that their stay in our beautiful country is completely safe. The situation in the Republic is stable, there is no reason to worry, Armenians love sports and will be happy to attend the upcoming sports festival. I am sure that the stands of the largest hall in the country will be overcrowded,” emphasized Michael Hayrapetyan.
Also on November 11, as part of the World Championships, an international business forum will be held.
“The idea of holding an international business forum in the vastness of Armenia appeared last year. The fact is that sport in general, and SAMBO in particular, are a bridge between countries and peoples. Meetings at such platforms make it possible to increase trust between people, build stable relations between business elites of different states, and, of course, partnerships between the business community and national federations, which will undoubtedly benefit the entire sambo world,” concluded the President of the Armenian Sambo Federation.
“I am very glad that the 2023 World Sambo Championships will take place in Armenia. Let me remind you that last year the World Cadets, Youth and Junior Championships were held at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex at a high organizational level, which became a real sports festival for all fans of martial arts. I am sure that this time all competition participants, spectators and television viewers will enjoy the uncompromising and spectacular fights, and will experience unforgettable positive emotions that will remain in their memory for a long time,” emphasized FIAS President Vasily Shestakov.
