Geiker FERRER: “I Really Liked the Pan American Championships”

The athlete from Venezuela Geiker Ferrer won the gold medal of the Pan American Championships in the weight category up to 74 kg in Combat SAMBO. In an interview for the FIAS website, he described how SAMBO is developing in Venezuela now, and also assessed the level of the past continental SAMBO championships.

“I have been practicing SAMBO for a long time and I love this sport very much. Now in Venezuela, SAMBO is very popular and is becoming more popular every day. Personally, I was inspired by SAMBO classes by Fedor Emelianenko – he is a real SAMBO legend, it is the fights with his participation that are a visual aid for athletes and demonstration of the full power of this sport,” Ferrer said.

He also appreciated the continental tournament held in the Dominican Republic.

“I really liked the Pan American Championships, both in terms of the level of rivals - in recent years it has grown significantly, and in terms of organization, all conditions have been created for comfortable preparation and performance,” the Venezuelan stressed.

The Pan American SAMBO Championships was held from 28 to 30 June in the Dominican Republic. The general sponsor of the tournament is Rosneft oil company, the official sponsor of the tournament is MikroKapital.
