Miraida MEDETBEK KYZY: “I will direct all my efforts to prepare for the World Combat Games”
Kyrgyz athlete Miraida Medetbek Kyzy won the gold medal of the Asia and Oceania Championships in the weight category up to 65 kg in Combat SAMBO among women and received the right to take part in the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia. About what path she went on the way to the coveted award and plans for the year – in her interview for the FIAS website.
– I won a gold medal, so I have very strong emotions. Last year, I also won the Asia and Oceania SAMBO Championships in Combat SAMBO, but this time I had more rivals on the way to the coveted award.
The final duel did not start easy: an athlete from Kazakhstan tried to perform a painful hold, but you managed to get out of it. How?
– Indeed, the moment was difficult, I had to endure pain, it was possible to get out of the grip only when Aiida weakened it.
From the side there was an impression that in the final fight you relied on striking technique, and your opponent – on wrestling. Is it so?
– Yes, that's right, during the fight I realized that the athlete from Kazakhstan has good wrestling skills, so I tried to focus on punches.
Was this your first meeting with Aiida?
– Yes, we met for the first time, so when I went to the mat, I did not know how the fight would turn out.
You won not only a gold medal, but also a ticket to the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia. What does this mean for you?
– A lot of things. And also the fact that this year I will be able to take part in one more major international SAMBO competitions.
But what about the World SAMBO Championships in Yerevan?
– Unfortunately, I failed to qualify, I lost in the national championship. Therefore, now I will direct all my efforts to preparing for the World Combat Games in Riyadh.
