“SAMBO in our country is part of a larger organization the Italian Federation of Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Savate, Shoot Boxing, SAMBO, and MMA (FEDERKOMBAT). It is a long-standing tradition for national championships in various disciplines to be held together, turning the event into a major multi-sport competition. This year was no exception the national championships in SAMBO, kickboxing, and shoot boxing were all held as part of the same tournament,” explained Roberto Ferraris, head of the SAMBO Committee at FEDERKOMBAT.

Over the course of four days, more than 800 athletes from across Italy battled for medals in their respective disciplines. In SAMBO, competitions were held across multiple age groups: children, cadets, youth, juniors and adults.

“The multi-sport format not only allows us to see Italian sambists in action, but also gives us the opportunity to promote our beloved sport to practitioners of other martial arts. As athletes move between competition areas, they inevitably discover new disciplines,” added Ferraris.
