Antonio Rebollar SAMBO Memorial Cup Held in Mexico

The Mexican Federation of SAMBO Clubs, Coaches and Athletes (FEMECEAS), in collaboration with the Sports Association of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, hosted the 3rd Antonio Ramírez Rebollar Memorial SAMBO Cup.

The tournament brought together 167 young athletes from across the country, including representatives from Cuernavaca, Querétaro, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, Guerrero, Mexico City, as well as competitors from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and the Polytechnic University. Medals were contested in various age categories: 14-16 years, 16-18 years, and 18-20 years.

Both men and women competed in Sport and Combat SAMBO. Following the tournament results, the Mexican national team was selected to represent the country at the World Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, this October.

“The growing number of SAMBO athletes in our country, along with our achievements at international competitions, shows that FEMECEAS is moving in the right direction. We set ambitious goals – not only to expand participation, especially among young people, but also to achieve top results at the biggest SAMBO tournaments,” – FEMECEAS representatives.

The Antonio Ramírez Rebollar Memorial SAMBO Cup is held annually in honor of the legendary coach, former head of the national federation, and passionate advocate for SAMBO in Mexico, Antonio Ramírez Rebollar. He passed away in February 2021 due to COVID-19, but his legacy continues to inspire new generations of SAMBO athletes.
