Beach SAMBO Championship Held on the Caspian Coast in Kazakhstan

The Kazakhstan Beach SAMBO Championship for adults took place for the first time on the shores of the Caspian Sea in the city of Aktau, bringing together over 100 athletes from across the country. Competitors from three cities and nine regions of Kazakhstan contested for titles across eight weight categories in a championship that served not only as a national competition but also as a qualifier for the upcoming World Beach SAMBO Championships.
The championship was held under comfortable conditions for athletes, referees, and spectators alike, with the venue’s coastal location offering a unique backdrop for the dynamic sport.
“Beach SAMBO differs significantly from Sport and Combat SAMBO. These bouts take place on sand, as the name suggests,” said Sungat Zhubatkan, one of the event organizers. “This is the first time such an event has been held in the Mangystau region. I’m confident it will not only boost the region’s sporting potential but also contribute to local tourism.”
As the organizers noted, the championship provided athletes with valuable competitive experience, allowing them to test their skills, exchange knowledge, and improve their performance on a national level. The winners and runners-up earned the prestigious title of Master of Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and secured places at both the World and Asia&Oceania Beach SAMBO Championships. Athletes who finished in third to fifth positions successfully defended their titles as Candidates for Master of Sport.
The overall team rankings were as follows:
1st place – Mangystau Region (5 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze medals)
2nd place – Karaganda Region (5 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze medals)
3rd place – Almaty Region (2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze medals)
Notably, the team from the city of Astana also showed strong results, earning 2 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
“The championship served as a strong step forward in the development of Beach SAMBO in Kazakhstan, paving the way for international competition. The next stop for many of these athletes will be the World Beach SAMBO Championships, scheduled on August in Singapore,” – the Kazakhstan Federation of Sport and Combat SAMBO emphasized.
