US Open International SAMBO Cup to Take Place in Atlanta

The US Open International SAMBO Cup is set to unfold on April 5 in Atlanta, Georgia. This prestigious tournament will feature competitions in both Sport and Combat SAMBO for men and women, taking place as part of the Georgia Fit Expo 2025 multi-sport event.

The venue for the Open Cup will be the Georgia International Convention Center. According to the organizers, the location offers convenient access, being close to Atlanta's airport and within walking distance of several hotels – a practical choice for tournament participants. 

The event will kick off in the morning with the US National SAMBO Championship, organized by USA Sambo Inc. This championship will serve as a selection event to form the national team for the upcoming sports season. In the afternoon, the US Open International SAMBO Cup will commence, inviting SAMBO athletes from national federations that are members or candidate members of FIAS or UPASA.

"We welcome participants from the Pan American region as well as SAMBO athletes from other continents and parts of the world. I’m confident this tournament will benefit all competitors and provide an additional boost to the development of SAMBO in the United States and across the Americas," stated Mikhail Kozitskiy, First Vice President of USA Sambo Inc. 

Kozitskiy also highlighted the growing popularity of the sport in the country. 

"Today, we’re witnessing a surge of interest in SAMBO in the United States. This is primarily due to the dominance of SAMBO practitioners in top-level mixed martial arts tournaments. As a result, SAMBO has gained a large and enthusiastic following in the U.S.," he added.

He recalled that in June of last year, UFC star Merab Dvalishvili, a silver medalist of the World SAMBO Championships, participated in the US Open Championship. As the main celebrity of that event, Dvalishvili captured the gold medal in Combat SAMBO. Organizers are now eagerly anticipating which star will headline the upcoming April tournament – the US Open International SAMBO Cup in Atlanta.
