Meeting on Development of International Classification of SAMBO for the Blind Held in Moscow

On September 26, a technical meeting on the development of the International Classification of SAMBO for the Blind was held at the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC).

The meeting was attended by General Secretary of the RPC, five-time Paralympic Games Champion Andrei Strokin, Head of the Anti-Doping, Medical and Methodological and Research RPC Support Department, Member of the Medical Committee of the International Paralympic Committee, Ph.D. Guzel Idrisova, Head of the Commission for Visually Impaired Athletes of All-Russian SAMBO Federation, Manager of SAMBO for the Blind as part of the FIAS Commission on Athletes with Disabilities, "Overcoming - International Expansion of SAMBO for the Blind" Project Manager Roman Novikov, Expert in Research and Methodology Natalya Novikova, and other involved specialists.

The meeting discussed the development of “SAMBO for the Blind” sport at the international level.

'Based on the results of the discussions, a number of decisions were made, in particular, to distinguish two sports classes in the SAMBO for the Blind Classification Rules: SVI-1, for totally blind athletes, and SVI-2, for visually impaired ones. These are important steps for the further development of SAMBO for the Blind,' remarked Roman Novikov.

In the near future, work on the development of the International Classification of SAMBO for the Blind will be continued in cooperation with FIAS.
