“A” category Yuri Potapov Memorial International Sambo tournament: before the start

This weekend “A” category Yuri Potapov Memorial International Sambo tournament will be held in Vladivostok. “A” category Yuri Potapov Memorial International Sambo tournament is dedicated to the memory of the first President of the Maritime Sambo and Judo Federation, Vice-President of the Russian Sambo Federation Yuri Potapov. This sambo competition has a rich history, and has been held for the 14^th time. It is remarkable that for the first time this year women are going to fight for the trophies of the tournament. The venue of spectacular fight is the Olympiets sports complex.

As of today, teams from more than 20 regions of Russia, as well as sambo athletes from Europe and Asia have confirmed their participation in the tournament. Athletes from Germany, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Japan, China, Thailand and South Korea will give the competition the international status.

If we think back to last year and study the protocols of the 2013 Yuri Potapov Memorial Tournament, we can conclude that only representatives of South Korea and Belarus were able to compete with the Russians for the right to be on the podium.

For sure, the medal geography of the tournament will expand this year. But sambo fans and admirers will be able to watch it not only from the stands of the Olympiets.
